ABSTRACT

Objetivos: el objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la lactancia y los factores relacionados (edad, nivel educativo, edad al momento del primer embarazo, etc.) y las prácticas de alimentación complementaria de las madres refugiadas sirias y las madres turcas. Materiales y métodos: este estudio descriptivo y comparativo analizó las características nutricionales de los bebés de 9 a 60 meses de edad cuyas madres fueran turcas o refugiadas sirias que asistieron al Hospital Público de Kiziltepe entre enero y julio de 2022. Resultados: se incluyó a 204 madres (126 turcas y 78 sirias). La edad promedio de las madres turcas era 27,60 ± 5,17 años y la de las refugiadas sirias, 28,91 ± 5,62 años, sin una diferencia significativa entre ambos grupos (p: 0,091). La lactancia materna posparto fue del 91,3 % y la duración de la lactancia fue de 12 meses (0-24) en las ciudadanas turcas, mientras que, en las refugiadas sirias, fue del 84,6 % y 9 meses (0-24), respectivamente (consumo de leche materna, p: 0,144; tiempo de consumo, p: 0,161; sin diferencias estadísticas). El 23,8 % de las ciudadanas turcas y el 5,1 % de las refugiadas sirias recibieron capacitación sobre la lactancia, con una diferencia significativa entre ambos grupos (p: 0,001). Conclusión: en los grupos de refugiadas, las prácticas de nutrición infantil y materna se ven alteradas. En colaboración con las organizaciones locales e internacionales y los organismos estatales que ayudan a los grupos de refugiados se podrían mejorar las prácticas de nutrición maternoinfantil y reducir las brechas.


Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare breastfeeding and related factors (age, level of education, age at first pregnancy, etc.), and complementary feeding practices between Syrian refugee and native Turkish mothers. Material and methods: This descriptive-comparative study examined the nutritional characteristics of infants aged 9 to 60 months whose mothers were Turkish or Syrian refugees who attended Kiziltepe State Hospital between January 2022 and July 2022. Results: 204 mothers (126 Turkish and 78 Syrian) who had a child aged 9-60 months were included. The average age of the mothers was 27.60 ± 5.17 years for Turkish citizens and 28.91 ± 5.62 for Syrian refugees, without significant difference between the two groups (p: 0.091). Postpartum breastfeeding was 91.3% and breastfeeding duration was 12 (0-24) months in Turkish citizens; in Syrian refugees, breastfeeding was 84.6% and average breastfeeding time was 9 (0- 24) months (respectively, breast milk intake p: 0.144, uptake time p: 0.161; no statistical difference). Breastfeeding training was received by 23.8% of Turkish citizens and 5.1% of Syrian refugees; there was a significant difference between the two groups (p: 0.001). Conclusion: In refugee groups, infant and maternal nutrition practices are disrupted. Working in conjunction with local and international organizations and state agencies that give help to refugee groups, the appropriate interventions, initiatives, supports, and awareness-raising activities would strive to improve practices in mother and baby nutrition and narrow gaps.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: compreender como enfermeiras percebem a vivência de uma gravidez e os primeiros meses após o nascimento de um filho durante o mestrado/doutorado. Método: estudo qualitativo, exploratório-descritivo, desenvolvido com nove pós-graduandas em enfermagem de uma universidade pública do estado do Paraná. A coleta de dados foi realizada nos meses de agosto e setembro de 2022, a partir de entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas que foram audiogravadas, transcritas e submetidas à análise de conteúdo, modalidade temática proposta por Bardin. Resultados: emergiram três categorias temáticas: 1) Enfrentando desafios: conciliar tarefas é uma necessidade; 2) Rede de apoio como facilitadora na conciliação da maternidade com os estudos e; 3) Aumento do tempo de licença-maternidade, flexibilização e apoio interno para inclusão de mulheres mães na ciência. Conclusão: as vivências da maternidade vivenciadas por mulheres na pós-graduação foram pautadas na sobrecarga das mães pesquisadoras, repercutindo em atrasos no cumprimento de prazos, dificuldade em manter a amamentação e preocupação com a saúde dos filhos, refletindo em escolhas e renúncias da maternidade nesta etapa da vida.


Objective: to understand how nurses perceive the experience of pregnancy and the first months after the birth of a child during their master's/doctoral studies. Method: qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study, developed with nine graduate students in nursing at a public university in the state of Paraná. Data collection was carried out in August and September 2022, based on semi-structured individual interviews that were audio-recorded, transcribed and submitted to content analysis, the thematic modality proposed by Bardin. Results: three thematic categories emerged: 1) Facing challenges: reconciling tasks is a necessity; 2) Support network as a facilitator in reconciling motherhood with studies and; 3) Increased maternity leave, flexibility and internal support for the inclusion of women mothers in science. Conclusion: the experiences of motherhood experienced by women in graduate school were based on the overload of research mothers, resulting in delays in meeting deadlines, difficulty in maintaining breastfeeding and concern for the health of their children, reflecting on choices and waivers of motherhood in this life stage.

Resultados: emergieron tres categorías temáticas: 1) Enfrentar desafíos: conciliar tareas es una necesidad; 2) Red de apoyo como facilitadora en la conciliación de la maternidad con los estudios y; 3) Aumento de la licencia de maternidad, flexibilidad y apoyo interno para la inclusión de mujeres madres en la ciencia. Conclusión: las experiencias de maternidad vividas por las mujeres en el posgrado se basaron en la sobrecarga de las madres investigadoras, resultando en retrasos en el cumplimiento de los plazos, dificultad para mantener la lactancia materna y preocupación por la salud de sus hijos, reflexionando sobre las opciones y renuncias de la maternidad en esta etapa de la vida.

ABSTRACT

OBJETIVOS El objetivo general del trabajo es conocer la efectividad entre la educación sanitaria sobre la lactancia materna en mujeres embarazadas en últimas semanas de fecha de parto en relación a su decisión de amamantar a sus hijos/as. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS En primer lugar, se realiza una revisión bibliográfica del estado actual de la producción científica enfermera sobre la efectividad de la educación en la población relacionado con la lactancia materna. A continuación, se realiza un estudio de enfoque cuantitativo, medición de la variable y diseño con intervención siendo este cuasi experimental con una muestra de 102 mujeres embarazadas. RESULTADOS Tras la aplicación de los test preeducacional y posteducacional en las sesiones de educación maternal sobre la lactancia materna la comparativa es positiva respecto a la adquisición de nivel de conocimientos de las mujeres embarazadas de la lactancia materna con el objetivo de aumentar la tasa de lactancia materna exclusiva en la población. CONCLUSIONES En la actualidad existe evidencia científica de un notable descenso de madres que amamantan a sus hijos debido a una carencia de información adecuada sobre el tema. Para ello, se hace necesaria la realización de educación sanitaria, los programas de educación tienen un afán promotor en el uso de la lactancia natural.


OBJECTIVES The general objective of the work is to know the effectiveness among health education on breastfeeding in pregnant women in the last weeks of the date of delivery in relation to their decision to breastfeed their children. MATERIALS AND METHODS First, a bibliographic review of the current state of nursing scientific production on the effectiveness of education in the population related to breastfeeding is carried out. A quantitative approach, measurement of the variable and design with intervention study is carried out, this quasi-experimental being with a sample of 102 pregnant women. RESULTS After the application of the preeducational and posteducational tests in the maternal education sessions on breastfeeding, the comparison is positive regarding the acquisition of the level of knowledge of pregnant women of breastfeeding in order to increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the population. CONCLUSIONS Currently there is scientific evidence of a notable decline in mothers who breastfeed their children due to a lack of adequate information on the subject. For this, it is necessary to carry out health education, education programs have a promoting desire in the use of breastfeeding.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of an educational intervention with mothers to stimulate children under two years of age at risk for neuropsychomotor development. Method: Before-after intervention study, conducted with 52 mothers of children under two years old, enrolled in reference centers in early childhood education. Initially, maternal knowledge regarding child development and stimulation was assessed through a structured instrument. Then, workshops were held with the mothers and, after three months, maternal knowledge was revised, reapplying the data collection instrument. In the analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics were used, applying the McNemar and Wilcoxon tests and the Rasch Model from the Item Response Theory. Results: after the intervention, there was a significant increase in scores regarding the following aspects: knowledge of mothers about child development and stimulation from 5.77 ± 1.85 to 18.60 ± 1.94 (p <0.001); reduction of the maternal difficulty index in answering the instrument questions from 1.17 ± 0.57 to -1.98 ± 1.63 (p 0.01). Conclusion: the educational intervention contributed to the improvement of maternal knowledge regarding the development and forms of child stimulation, corroborating the importance of this action to advance the health of children at risk under maternal care at home.


Objetivo: analisar a efetividade de uma intervenção educativa com mães para a estimulação de crianças menores de dois anos em situação de risco para o desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor. Método: estudo de intervenção do tipo antes-depois, realizado com 52 mães de crianças menores de dois anos e matriculadas em centros de referências em educação infantil. Inicialmente, foram avaliados os conhecimentos maternos quanto ao desenvolvimento e à estimulação infantil por meio de instrumento estruturado. Em seguida, realizou-se oficinas com as mães e, após três meses, os conhecimentos maternos foram reavaliados, reaplicando o instrumento de coleta de dados. Na análise, utilizou-se estatística descritiva e inferencial, sendo aplicados teste de McNemar, de Wilcoxon e o modelo de Rash da Teoria da Resposta ao Item. Resultados: após intervenção, houve aumento significativo dos escores quanto aos aspectos: conhecimento das mães sobre o desenvolvimento e estimulação infantil de 5,77 ± 1,85 para 18,60 ± 1,94 (p < 0,001); e redução do índice de dificuldade materna em responder as questões do instrumento de 1,17 ± 0,57 para −1,98 ± 1,63 (p < 0,01). Conclusão: a intervenção educativa contribuiu para a melhora dos conhecimentos maternos quanto ao desenvolvimento e às formas de estimulação infantil, corroborando a importância desta ação para o avanço da saúde da criança com risco sob os cuidados maternos no domicílio.

Método: estudio de intervención del tipo antes-después, que fue realizado con 52 madres de niños menores de dos años, inscriptos en centros de referencias en educación infantil. Inicialmente, fueron evaluados los conocimientos maternos cuanto al desarrollo y la estimulación infantil por medio de instrumento estructurado. Luego, fueron realizados talleres con las madres y, después de tres meses, los conocimientos maternos reevaluados, reaplicando el instrumento de recogida de datos. En el análisis, se utilizó estadística descriptiva e inferencial, siendo aplicadas pruebas McNemar, Wilcoxon y Modelo de Rash de la Teoría de la Respuesta al Ítem. Resultados: después de la intervención, hubo incremento significativo de los escores cuanto a los aspectos: conocimiento de las madres sobre el desarrollo y la estimulación infantil de 5,77±1,85 para 18,60±1,94 (p<0,001); reducción del índice de dificultad materna en responder las cuestiones del instrumento de 1,17 ± 0,57 para -1,98 ± 1,63 (p<0,01). Conclusión: la intervención educativa contribuyó para la mejora de los conocimientos maternos cuanto al desarrollo y a las formas de estimulación infantil, corroborando la importancia de esta acción para el avance de la salud del niño con riesgo bajo los cuidados maternos en el domicilio.

ABSTRACT

Introdução: A avaliação materna acerca da oferta de serviços de saúde destinada ao cuidado em saúde de neonatos destaca-se como importante referencial de qualidade, no âmbito hospitalar. Objetivo: analisar a percepção de mães sobre cuidados de saúde bucal trazidos por profissionais de Odontologia residentes em Neonatologia. Material e método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva com abordagem qualitativa às mães de neonatos que estiveram internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal do Hospital Universitário Regional dos Campos Gerais. Resultado: Inicialmente, a informação da presença do cirurgião-dentista na equipe de cuidados à saúde neonatal foi encarada com surpresa pelas participantes, porém somente até que a ações fossem destacadas. Após o esclarecimento, a maioria das entrevistadas expressou satisfação, motivação e segurança em relação ao atendimento odontológico e admiração pela oferta deste serviço de saúde, em um hospital público. Conclusão: A percepção da participação do cirurgião-dentista na equipe de saúde foi avaliada de maneira positiva pelas mães participantes, ao ser evidenciada a atuação deste no âmbito hospitalar. O levantamento realizado fortalece a necessidade de continuidade e ampliação das ações de promoção e prevenção em saúde, promovendo, desta forma, o incentivo precoce e o empoderamento das mães e familiares de neonatos.


Introduction: The maternal evaluation about the provision of health services for neonatal health care stands out as an important quality reference in the hospital setting. Objetive: to analyze the perception of mothers on oral health care brought by dental professionals residing in Neonatology. Materials and method: This is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach to the mothers of neonates who were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Regional University Hospital of Campos Gerais. Result: Initially the information on the presence of the dental surgeon in the neonatal health care team was viewed with surprise by the participants, but only until the actions were highlighted. After clarification, most interviewees expressed satisfaction, motivation and safety regarding dental care and admiration for the offer of this health service in a public hospital. Conclusion: The perception of the participation of the dental surgeon in the health team was evaluated in a positive way by the participating mothers, when it was evidenced the performance of this in the hospital scope. The survey strengthens the need for continuity and expansion of health promotion and prevention actions, promoting in this way the early encouragement and empowerment of mothers and their families.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: to validate an educational primer, regarding content and design, for promoting maternal self-efficacy in preventing childhood diarrhea. Method: methodological study composed of 31 mothers of children under five years of age, in which the validation of the primer You can prevent diarrhea in your child! was carried out from the Content Validity Index (CVI), being evaluated as to the domains understanding, attractiveness, self-efficacy, cultural acceptance, and persuasion. Results: the primer was considered relevant and clear, with average concordance of 99.4% and 99.8%, respectively. The overall CVI was of 0.99, evidencing satisfactory level of agreement between the mothers. The assessment of domains generated satisfactory results. Conclusion: the primer was considered valid by the target audience; thus, it can be implemented for promoting maternal confidence to prevent childhood diarrhea.


RESUMEN Objetivo: validar una cartilla educativa, cuanto al contenido y la apariencia, elaborada para promocionar la autoeficacia materna en la prevención de la diarrea infantil. Método: Estudio metodológico con participación de 31 madres de niños menores de cinco años de edad, en el cual se ha procedido a la validez de la cartilla ¡Usted es capaz de prevenir la diarrea en su hijo! (en portugués: Você é capaz de prevenir a diarreia no seu filho!) desde el Índice de Validez de Contenido (IVC), siendo evaluada cuanto a los dominios comprensión, atracción, autoeficacia, aceptación cultural y persuasión. Resultados: La cartilla ha sido considerada clara y relevante, con el promedio de concordancia del 99,4% y del 99,8%, respectivamente. El IVC global ha sido de 0,99, evidenciando nivel satisfactorio de concordancia entre las madres. La evaluación de los dominios ha generado resultados satisfactorios. Conclusión: La cartilla ha sido considerada válida por el público-objetivo, pudiendo ser implementada para promoción de la confiabilidad materna en prevenir la diarrea infantil.

ABSTRACT

Resumo OBJETIVO Descrever o processo de elaboração de um subconjunto terminológico da Classificação Internacional para a Prática de Enfermagem para assistência à mulher e à criança em processo de amamentação. MÉTODO Estudo metodológico desenvolvido em seis etapas seguindo as diretrizes recomendadas pelo Conselho Internacional de Enfermeiras(os). RESULTADO Foram elaborados 74 diagnósticos/resultados e 213 intervenções de enfermagem, classificados de acordo com o modelo teórico utilizado, a "Teoria Interativa de Amamentação". CONCLUSÃO Acredita-se que o subconjunto poderá orientar de forma segura e sistemática os enfermeiros que trabalham na área materno-infantil, favorecendo a execução do Processo de Enfermagem e promovendo a qualidade da assistência, centrada na mulher, na criança e na família que estão vivenciando o processo de amamentação.


Resumen OBJETIVO Describir el proceso de elaboración de un subconjunto terminológico de la Clasificación Internacional para la Práctica de Enfermería para atención de la mujer y el niño en proceso de lactancia. MÉTODO Estudio metodológico desarrollado en seis etapas siguiendo las directrices recomendadas por el Consejo Internacional de Enfermeras(os). RESULTADO Fueron elaborados 74 diagnósticos/resultados y 213 intervenciones de enfermería, clasificadas según el modelo teórico utilizado, la "Teoría Interactiva de Lactancia". CONCLUSIÓN Se considera que el subconjunto podrá orientar de manera segura y sistemática a los enfermeros actuantes en el área materno-infantil, favoreciendo la ejecución del Proceso de Enfermería y promoviendo la calidad de la atención centrada en la mujer, el niño y la familia que están atravesando el proceso de lactancia.


Abstract OBJECTIVE To describe the development of a terminology subset of the International Classification for Nursing Practice for care of women and children in process of breastfeeding. METHOD: Methodological study developed in six stages according to the guidelines recommended by the International Council of Nurses. RESULTS Seventy-four nursing diagnoses/outcomes and 213 nursing interventions were performed and classified according to the theoretical model Interactive Theory of Breastfeeding. CONCLUSION The subset is expected to safely and systematically steer nurses that work in this area, promoting the implementation of the nursing process and quality of care, focusing on women, children and families that are experiencing the breastfeeding process.

Resumo OBJETIVO Descrever as ações de enfermeiros da Estratégia Saúde da Família acerca da Primeira Semana Saúde Integral no cuidado ao recém-nascido. MÉTODO Pesquisa descritiva, exploratória com abordagem qualitativa realizada de outubro de 2014 a fevereiro de 2015, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, com nove enfermeiros da Estratégia Saúde da Família de João Pessoa-PB. Os dados foram submetidos à análise temática. RESULTADOS As ações identificadas na primeira visita ao bebê se baseiam nas orientações maternas acerca dos cuidados básicos ao recém-nascido, aleitamento materno, testes de triagem neonatal, imunização e puericultura, bem como avaliação da puérpera, no entanto, por vezes eram realizadas fora do período recomendado e com orientações incompletas e desatualizadas. CONCLUSÃO Embora haja potencialidades nas ações dos enfermeiros prestadas a essa população, as fragilidades comprometem a assistência ao neonato e à puérpera, sendo necessário sensibilizar esses profissionais acerca da importância e eficácia da Primeira Semana Saúde Integral.


Resumen OBJETIVO Describir las acciones de enfermeros de la Estrategia Salud de la Familia acerca de la Primera Semana Salud Integral en la atención al recién-nacido. MÉTODO Investigación descriptiva, exploratoria con abordaje calitativo, realizada de octubre de 2014 hacia febrero de 2015, por medio de entrevista semiestructurada, con nueve enfermeros de la Estrategia Salud de la Familia de João Pessoa-PB. Los datos fueron sometidos al análisis temático. RESULTADOS Las acciones identificadas en la primera visita al bebé se basan en las orientaciones maternas sobre los cuidados básicos al recién nacido, la lactancia materna, las pruebas de selección neonatal, la inmunización y la puericultura, así como la evaluación de la puérpera, pero a veces se realizaban fuera del período recomendado y con directrices incompletas y obsoletas. CONCLUSIÓN Aunque hay potencialidades en las acciones de los enfermeros prestadas a esa población, las fragilidades comprometen la asistencia al neonato y a la puérpera, siendo necesario sensibilizar a esos profesionales acerca de la importancia y eficacia de la Primera Semana Salud Integral.


Abstract OBJECTIVE To describe the nurses' actions of the Family Health Strategy about the First Week for Integral Health regarding the care devoted to the newborn. METHOD It is a descriptive, exploratory research with qualitative approach carried out from October 2014 to February 2015, through a semi-structured interview, with nine nurses from the Family Health Strategy of João Pessoa-PB. Data were submitted to thematic analysis. RESULTS The actions identified at the first visit to the newborn child are based on maternal guidance on basic newborn care, breastfeeding, neonatal screening, immunization and childcare, as well as evaluation of the puerperal, but it was sometimes performed outside the period recommended and with incomplete and outdated guidelines. CONCLUSION Although there are potentialities in nurses' actions to this population, the fragilities compromise the care of the newborn and the puerperium, and it is necessary to sensitize these professionals about the importance and effectiveness of First Week for Integral Health.

ABSTRACT

Abstract: Objective: To describe the prevalence and factors associated with severe child functioning difficulties and disability (CFD) among two to four year old children in Mexico, and estimates the probability of presenting CFD based on specific population profiles. Materials and methods: The sample consists of 5 104 children who participated in the National Survey of Children and Women 2015 (ENIM). We used post-estimation exploration by computing predicted values of CFD to interpret the logistic models for discrete combinations of the independent variables. Results: CFD prevalence is 2%, which means at least 130 000 two to four year-old children are at risk of experiencing severely limited participation in an unaccommodating environment. The probability of presenting CFD is dramatically higher in specific sub-groups of the population, in particular, male children of women with low education, who live in the poorest households. Conclusions: A significant proportion of Mexican children face important challenges due to functioning difficulties and disability. Public policies must be developed to accommodate the needs of these children and provide a proper environment for their development.


Resumen: Objetivo: Describir la prevalencia y los factores asociados con las dificultades severas de funcionamiento y discapacidad (CFD, por sus siglas en inglés) en niños de dos a cuatro años de edad en México y estimar la probabilidad de presentar CFD basada en perfiles poblacionales específicos. Material y métodos: La muestra fue conformada por 5 104 niños participantes de la Encuesta Nacional de los Niños, Niñas y Mujeres (ENIM) 2015. Se realizó una post-estimación calculando los valores predichos de CFD para interpretar los modelos logísticos a partir de combinaciones discretas de las variables independientes. Resultados: La prevalencia de CFD es de 2%, lo que significa que al menos 130 000 niños de 2 a 4 años de edad están en riesgo de experimentar una participación severamente limitada en un ambiente no adaptado a sus necesidades. La probabilidad de presentar CFD aumenta dramáticamente en subgrupos específicos de la población, en particular los hijos varones de mujeres con baja educación, que viven en los hogares más pobres. Conclusión: Una proporción importante de la población infantil mexicana enfrenta retos importantes derivados de las dificultades de funcionamiento y la discapacidad. Es necesario desarrollar políticas públicas que respondan a las necesidades específicas de este grupo poblacional, proporcionando un entorno apropiado para su desarrollo.

Abstract: Objectives: To report the prevalence of severe functional difficulties and disability (SFD) in a nationally representative sample of children ages 5 to 17 in Mexico, to identify factors associated with SFD, and population profiles predictive of SFD. Materials and methods: Using data from the National Survey on Children and Women we estimated prevalence and 95% confidence intervals of SFD and risk factors. We fitted bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models. We then examined which combinations of the sociodemographic factors best predicted SFD. Results: The prevalence of SFD was 11.2%. The most prevalent SFD were on the socioemotional dimension (8.3%). The associated risk factors in the three dimensions were: living in a poor household, being a boy, having a mother with basic education or less, and non-indigenous background or living in an urban area. Conclusions: Identifying groups of the population at higher risk for SFD provides useful information for targeted intervention implementation.


Resumen: Objetivos: Reportar la prevalencia de dificultades funcionales y discapacidad severa (SFD) en una muestra nacional representativa de niños de 5 a 17 años en México; identificar los factores asociados con SFD; documentar los perfiles poblacionales que predicen SFD. Material y métodos: Se utilizaron los datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Niñas, Niños y Mujeres en México; se estimaron prevalencias e intervalos de confianza al 95%. Se ajustaron modelos bivariados y multivariados. Se examinaron las combinaciones de factores sociodemográficos que mejor predecían la SFD. Resultados: La prevalencia de SFD fue de 11.2%. Las SFD más prevalentes fueron en la dimensión socioemocional (8.3%). Los factores de riesgo asociados en las tres dimensiones fueron pobreza, ser hombre, tener una madre con educación primaria o menor, no ser indígena o vivir en zonas urbanas. Conclusiones: Identificar a los grupos con mayor riesgo de SFD dentro de la población proporciona información útil para el desarrollo de intervenciones.

Abstract: Objective: To describe the characteristics of Mexican children and adolescents 5-17 years with severe functioning difficulties and disability and explore their participation in child labor. Materials and methods: Using data from the National Survey of Boys, Girls and Women in Mexico 2015 we estimated prevalence of functioning difficulties and disability and used logistic regression to explore the association between this condition and child labor. Results: While 11.2% of Mexicans 5-17 years-old has severe functioning difficulties or disability, 13.4% work. The functioning difficulty and disability domains with the highest prevalence are experiencing anxiety (5.4%) and depression (1.5%) daily. Children and adolescents with severe functioning difficulties and disability are 70% more likely to do child labor [OR=1.7, 95%CI:1.2,2.4]. Educational lag doubles the likelihood of doing child labor [OR=2.2, 95%CI:1.5,3.3]. Conclusions: Guaranteeing educational opportunities and respect for the rights of children with severe functioning difficulties and disability is essential to achieve development of their full potential.


Resumen: Objetivo: Describir la población mexicana de 5-17 años con problemas severos de funcionamiento y discapacidad y explorar su realización de trabajo infantil. Material y métodos: Basado en la Encuesta Nacional de Niños, Niñas y Mujeres 2015, se estimaron prevalencias de problemas de funcionamiento y discapacidad y se exploró la relación con el trabajo infantil en un modelo de regresión logística. Resultados: El 11.2% de los mexicanos de 5-17 años tiene dificultades severas de funcionamiento o discapacidad y 13.4% realiza trabajo infantil. Los ámbitos con la mayor prevalencia fueron ansiedad (5.4%) y depresión (1.5%) experimentadas diariamente. Niños y adolescentes con problemas severos de funcionamiento o discapacidad tienen 70% más posibilidades de realizar trabajo infantil [RM=1.7, IC95%:1.2,2.4]. El rezago educativo duplica las posibilidades de realizar trabajo infantil [RM=2.2, IC95%:1.5,3.3]. Conclusiones: Es imprescindible garantizar oportunidades educativas y respeto a los derechos de la población infantil con problemas de funcionamiento y discapacidad para lograr su desarrollo integral.

Introducción: son múltiples y variados los beneficios que ofrece la lactancia materna, entre ellos, la disminución de la mortalidad y la morbilidad infantil. Si embargo, sigue siendo un grave problema el abandono precoz de la lactancia materna en los lactantes, antes del tiempo recomendado. Objetivo: identificar los factores que influyeron en el abandono precoz de la lactancia materna en lactantes. Materiales y Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal, en un universo conformado por los 120 lactantes que no recibieron lactancia materna exclusiva hasta el sexto mes, pertenecientes al Grupo Básico de Trabajo 1, del Policlínico "José Martí Pérez", en Santiago de Cuba. El periodo comprendido fue desde enero a diciembre del 2014. Para la recolección de los datos se revisaron las historias clínicas de los lactantes y se elaboraron encuestas. Se procedió a la tabulación de los resultados los cuales quedaron recogidos en cuadros estadísticos. Resultados: predominaron e las madres multíparas en edades comprendidas entre 20 y 34 años de edad, para un 62,5 %. Un 27,5 % eran amas de casa, y un 25,8 % técnicos. El 65 % de las madres que participaron en el estudio tenían conocimientos sobre la lactancia materna, pero no recibieron suficiente apoyo de sus familiares. La mayoría de estos niños enfermaron, de ellos un 96,6 % padecieron enfermedades respiratorias agudas. La principal causa del abandono precoz fue la hipogalactia, con un 49,1 %. Conclusiones: se identificaron los factores que influyeron en el abandono precoz de la lactancia materna en lactantes (AU).


Introduction: there are several benefits offered by maternal breastfeeding, among them, the decrease of mortality and morbidity. Nevertheless, the precocious breastfeeding discontinuation - before the recommended time- is still a serious problem. Objective: to identify the factors influencing precocious breastfeeding discontinuation in nursing infants. Materials and Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in a universe formed by 120 nursing infants who were not under exclusive maternal breastfeeding up to the their sixth month. They belonged to the Basic Group of Work 1, of the Polyclinic "José Martí Pérez", in Santiago de Cuba. The studied period was the one from January to December 2014. The clinical records of the nursing infants and surveys were used for data collection. The results were tabulated and gathered in statistical tables. Results: multiparous women aged 20-40 years predominated for a 62 %. 27.5 % of them were housewives, and 25.8 % were technicians. 65 % of the women who participated in the study had knowledge on the importance of maternal breastfeeding, but they did not have enough support from the part of their relatives. Most of the children got sick, and 96.6 % suffered acute respiratory diseases. The main cause of the precocious breastfeeding discontinuation was hypogalactia, with 49.1 % Conclusions: the factors influencing in the precocious maternal breastfeeding discontinuation were identified (AU).

RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar o conhecimento das puérperas sobre o teste do pezinho. Métodos: Foram investigadas 75 puérperas que buscaram atendimento na atenção primária no período de outubro de 2014 a fevereiro de 2015. Um formulário foi aplicado pela pesquisadora principal e os dados resultantes foram analisados por estatística descritiva por meio dos programas Microsoft Office Excel e Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Foi feito teste de associação e determinado o poder estatístico. Resultados: Das 75 puérperas, 47 (62,7%) gostariam de receber maiores esclarecimentos sobre o teste do pezinho, com destaque para o período adequado de coleta, seguido pelas doenças triadas. A maioria das participantes (n=55; 85,9%) levou seu filho para realização do teste entre o terceiro e o sétimo dia de vida, conforme preconizado pelo Ministério da Saúde. Das puérperas, 54 (72%) não souberam citar quais são as doenças triadas pelo teste do pezinho em Minas Gerais nem sabiam que a maioria delas tem etiologia genética. O profissional de saúde que informou sobre esse teste foi um médico. Essa orientação ocorreu durante o pré-natal em 57% dos casos e, na alta hospitalar em 43%. O teste de associação mostrou que as mães com maior escolaridade possuem maior conhecimento sobre a finalidade e a importância do teste do pezinho. O poder estatístico encontrado foi de 83,5%. Conclusões: O conhecimento das puérperas sobre o teste do pezinho é superficial e pode ser reflexo da atuação da equipe de saúde.


ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to assess the knowledge of puerperal mothers about the Guthrie test. Methods: A total of 75 mothers who sought primary care between October 2014 and February 2015 were investigated. The form was applied by the main researcher and the data was analyzed, using descriptive statistics with Microsoft Office Excel, and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) programs. Association tests and statistical power were applied. Results: Among the 75 mothers, 47 (62.7%) would have liked to receive more information about the newborn screening, especially regarding the correct sample collection period, followed by the screened morbidities. Most participants (n=55; 85.9%) took their children to be tested between the third and the seventh day of birth, as recommended by the Brazilian Health Ministry. Fifty-four women (72%) were unable to name the morbidities screened by the test in Minas Gerais, and they were also unaware that most have genetic etiology. The health professional who informed the mother about the Guthrie test was mainly the physician. This information was given prenatally to 57% of the cases, and to 43 % at the time of discharge from the hospital. The association test showed that mothers with higher education have more knowledge about the purpose and importance of the Guthrie test. The statistical power was 83.5%. Conclusions: Maternal knowledge about the Guthrie test is superficial and may reflect the health team's usual practice.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi averiguar os fatores associados à leitura da Caderneta de Saúde da Criança (CSC) pelas mães e a seu preenchimento pelos profissionais de saúde, em Feira de Santana (Bahia), em 2009. Estudo transversal com aplicação de 727 formulários às mães de crianças menores de um ano. Os desfechos estudados foram: leitura materna da caderneta e preenchimento de medidas de peso e comprimento, por profissionais de saúde. Realizou-se análise de regressão logística com valor de p ≤ 5%. A prevalência de leitura, medidas de peso e comprimento foram, respectivamente, 8,1%, 68,9% e 47,3%. Maior escolaridade materna associou-se a maiores chances de leitura. Registros de peso e comprimento foram mais prevalentes em mães com idade < 35 anos. Realizar puericultura em áreas do Programa de Saúde da Família ou dos Agentes Comunitários de Saúde associou-se positivamente com anotações do comprimento, apesar das baixas prevalências dos registros. Idade da criança ≥ 6 meses associou-se a todos os desfechos. Demonstrou-se a subutilização da CSC por mães e profissionais de saúde, indicativos da necessidade de medidas educativas com treinamentos dos profissionais de saúde e orientações às mães sobre a importância e o manejo da mesma.


Abstract This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with mothers reading the Child Health Handbook (CHH) and health professionals completing this instrument, in Feira de Santana, Bahia, 2009. This is a cross-sectional study with the application of 727 forms to mothers of children under one year of age. The outcomes studied were mother reading the CHH and health professionals completing weight and height measures. We performed a logistic regression analysis with p ≤ 0.05. The prevalence of reading, weight and height were, respectively, 81.1%, 68.9% and 47.3%. Mothers with a higher level of education had a greater chance of reading the CHH. Recording weight and height was more prevalent in mothers who were under 35 years of age. Performing childcare in areas of the Family Health Program or the Community Health Workers was positively associated with the height’s record, despite the low prevalence of records. Child age greater than six months was positively associated with all outcomes. It demonstrated the underutilization of CHH by mothers and health professionals, which indicates the need for training of health professionals and guidance to mothers on the importance and management of this issue.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Low birth weight [LEW] is one of the major health problems worldwide. It is important to identify the factors that play a role in the incidence of this adverse pregnancy outcome. This study aimed to develop a tool to measure mothers' lifestyles during pregnancy with a view to the effects of social determinants on health and develop a correlation model of mothers' lifestyles with LBW


Methods: This study was conducted using methodological and case-control designs in four stages by selecting 750 mothers with infants weighing less than 4000 g using multistage sampling


The questionnaire contained 160 items. Face, content, criterion, and construct validity were used to study the psychometrics of the instrument


Results: After psychometrics, 132 items were approved in six domains. Test results indicated the utility and the high fitness of the model and reasonable relationships adjusted for variables based on conceptual models. Based on the correlation model of lifestyle, occupation [-0.263] and social relationships [0.248] had the greatest overall effect on birth weight


Conclusions: The review of lifestyle dimensions showed that all of the dimensions directly, indirectly, or both affected birth weight. Thus, given the importance and the role of lifestyle as a determinant affecting birth weight, attention, and training interventions are important to promote healthy lifestyles

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the postpartum women's level of comprehension of newborn care practices taught at a rooming-in facility. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a Likert scale was used to assess the participants' level of comprehension of the postpartum instructions provided by the nursing staff at a maternity ward of a teaching hospital in southern Brazil. Results: A total of 196 women were interviewed. The analysis of the overall level of comprehension of newborn care instructions, assessed by means of Likert scale scores, was considered satisfactory, with a mean comprehension of 77.19% (SD: 17.3%) and a median comprehension of 80% (IQR: 70-90). Conclusions: The newborn care instructions provided by the nursing staff at a rooming-in facility were satisfactorily understood by the postpartum women (AU)

Introducción. Las campanas públicas en países desarrollados con recomendaciones para el sueño seguro del lactante lograron aumentar la adherencia a la posición supina para dormir a más del 70% y generaron, simultáneamente, una reducción del 53% en la incidencia del síndrome de muerte súbita del lactante. Objetivo. Valorar el impacto a los 60 días de vida de una intervención educativa realizada en las maternidades para mejorar la adherencia a las recomendaciones sobre sueño seguro del lactante. Población, material y métodos. Estudio de intervención con control histórico entre el 1/2 y el 30/9 de 2014, realizado en la Maternidad Meisner y el Hospital Universitario Austral. Dicha intervención se denominó "tapeta cuna" y consistió en capacitar al equipo de salud y brindar información a las familias sobre sueño seguro a través de clases, adhesivos en las cunas y material escrito. Resultados. Fueron incluidos 550recién nacidos. Se observó un incremento del 35% en la posición supina al dormir tras la intervención (p < 0,0001); la lactancia materna exclusiva se incrementó un 11% (p= 0,01); se redujo el colecho de un 31% a un 18% (p < 0,0005). No se encontraron diferencias en la cohabitación, entre convivientes fumadores ni en la utilización del chupete a los 60 días. Conclusiones. La intervención educativa resultó útil para mejorar la adherencia a las recomendaciones sobre sueño seguro a los 60 días de vida: se evidenció una mejora en la posición supina, la lactancia materna y la reducción del colecho. No existieron cambios en la proporción de convivientes fumadores, la cohabitación y el uso del chupete.


Introduction. In developed countries, public campaigns promoting recommendations on safe infant sleep increased adherence to the supine sleeping position to more than 70% and, at the same time, reduced the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome by 53%. Objective. To determine the impact, at 60 days of life, of an educational intervention conducted in maternity centers aimed at improving adherence to the recommendations on safe infant sleep. Population, material and methods. Intervention study with historical control conducted between February 1st and September 30th of 2014 at the Maternity Center of Hospital Meisner and Hospital Universitario Austral. The intervention was called "crib card" and consisted in training health care team members and providing families with information on safe infant sleep by means of lessons, written material and using stickers on cribs. Results. Five hundred and fifty newborn infants were included. After the intervention, a 35% increase in the supine sleeping position (p < 0.0001) was observed; exclusive breastfeeding increased by 11% (p= 0.01); and co-sleeping decreased from 31% to 18% (p < 0.0005). No differences were observed in relation to bedroom sharing, living with tobacco users, or pacifier use at 60 days of life. Conclusions. The educational intervention was useful to improve adherence to the recommendations on safe sleep at 60 days of life: using the supine position and breastfeeding improved, and the rate of co-sleeping decreased. No changes were observed in the number of household members who smoke, bedroom sharing, and pacifier use.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore how traditional ritual practices are incorporated into the context of contemporary healthcare. METHODS: An ethnographic study was conducted, using observations and interviews with 27 first-time mothers and 3 nurses at a postpartum nursing center in Taipei, Taiwan. RESULTS: Nursing routines, policies and care provision at the center affected the way traditional ritual practices were conducted. New mothers in this study constructed their everyday activities at the center by incorporating and modifying the ritual practices inside and outside the postpartum nursing center setting. CONCLUSIONS: Social changes have an influence on traditional postpartum ritual practices so a postpartum nursing center becomes a choice for postpartum women. Thus, health care professionals should value their own functions and roles at the postpartum nursing center since the new mothers regard them as the primary support resource to help them recover from giving birth. Therefore, they need to re-examine their practices from the postpartum women's perspective to provide better support and sensitive care to postpartum women and their families.

AbstractObjective: to build, validate and assess an educational intervention using the flip chart titled "I Can Breastfeed My Child."Method: an experimental study using a pretest, intervention and posttest, as well as a control group. A total of 201 women, who had been hospitalized immediately, for at least 6 hours, postpartum. The mothers were allocated to the intervention (100 women) or control groups (101 women) according to the length of their hospital stay. The effectiveness of the flip chart was assessed by applying the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale - Short-Form at admission, discharge and by telephone in the second month postpartum. The intervention and control groups were similar in their socio-demographic, obstetric and gynecological variables.Results: the intervention was beneficial because mothers in the intervention group had higher self-efficacy scores, more mothers continued breastfeeding and mothers had a longer duration of exclusive breastfeeding, both at the time of hospital discharge and at the second month postpartum, with statistically significant associations.Conclusions: this experimental study assessed the educational strategy mediated via the flip chart titled "I Can Breastfeed My Child" as being effective both in increasing self-efficacy and increasing the duration of breastfeeding.


ResumoObjetivo:construir, validar e avaliar uma intervenção educativa, utilizando oflip-chartintitulado "Eu consigo amamentar meu filho".Método:estudo experimental utilizando um pré-teste, intervenção e teste posterior, bem como um grupo de controle. Um total de 201 mulheres, as quais haviam sido hospitalizadas imediatamente, a pelo menos 6 horas, após o parto. As mães foram atribuídas aos grupos de intervenção (100 mulheres) ou de controle (101 mulheres), de acordo com a duração da internação. A eficácia do flip-chartfoi avaliada com a aplicação da Escala de Autoeficácia de Amamentação (um pequeno formulário) na admissão, quando tiveram alta e por telefone dois meses após o parto. Os grupos de intervenção e de controle mostraramse semelhantes quanto às variáveis sociodemográficas, obstetrícias e ginecológicas.Resultados:a intervenção foi benéfica, já que as mães do grupo de intervenção tiveram pontuações altas de autoeficácia, mais mães continuaram a amamentar e mantiveram um período maior de amamentação exclusiva, tanto quando obtiveram alta quanto dois meses após o parto, apresentando associações estatisticamente significativas.Conclusõeseste estudo experimental avaliou a estratégia educacional mediada por meio doflip-chartintitulado "Eu consigo amamentar meu filho" como sendo eficaz no aumento da autoeficácia e da duração da amamentação.

Un total de 201 mujeres, las cuales habían sido hospitalizadas inmediatamente por lo menos 6 horas después del parto. Las madres fueron atribuidas a los grupos de intervención (100 mujeres) o de control (101 mujeres), según la duración de la internación. La eficacia delflip-chartfue evaluada con la aplicación de la Escala de Autoeficacia de Amamantamiento (un pequeño formulario) en la admisión, cuando fueron dadas de alta y por teléfono dos meses después del parto. Los grupos de intervención y de control se mostraron de forma similar en cuanto a las variables sociodemográficas, obstétricas y ginecológicas.Resultados:la intervención fue benéfica, ya que las madres del grupo de intervención tuvieron puntajes altos de autoeficacia, más madres continuaron a amamantar y mantuvieron un periodo mayor de amamantamiento exclusivo, tanto cuando fueron dadas de alta como dos meses después del parto, presentando asociaciones estadísticamente significativas.Conclusiones:este estudio experimental evaluó la estrategia educacional mediada por medio del flip-chartintitulado "Yo puedo amamantar a mi hijo" como siendo eficaz en el aumento de la autoeficacia y de la duración del amamantamiento.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to analyse the input of growth and development data in the Child Health Handbook. METHOD: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in Cuiabá, Brazil, on August 13, 2011, with the application of a questionnaire and direct observation of 950 handbooks. We included children under one year of age who resided in Cuiabá, accompanied by their mothers or guardians who were in possession of the handbook. Data were analyzed by calculating the prevalence ratio (PR) and Chi-Square test, with a significance level set at 5%. The project was approved by the Ethics Committee under Opinion No. 882/2010. RESULTS: Of the analyzed handbooks, 95.4% of the development data and 79.6% of the data in the growth charts were incomplete or missing. CONCLUSION: The low rate of growth and development data input in the handbooks reveals the need to create awareness among the population, health care professionals and managers on the importance of handbooks, and the need to invest in training and the empowerment of professionals in relation to its proper use. .


OBJETIVO: Analizar el relleno de los datos del crecimiento y desarrollo en la Cartilla de Salud del Niño. MÉTODO: Estudio transversal, realizado en Cuiabá, Brasil, en 13 de agosto de 2011, con aplicación de cuestionario y observación directa de 950 cartillas. Se incluyeron niños menores de un ano, residentes en Cuiabá, acompañadas de la madre o responsable y juntamente con la cartilla. Los datos fueron analizados calculándose la razón de prevalencia (RP) y prueba Cui-Cuadrado, con nivel de significancia del 5%. El proyecto fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética bajo el Parecer nº 882/2010. RESULTADOS: De las cartillas analizadas, 95,4% del desarrollo y 79,6% de los gráficos de crecimiento, estaban con relleno incompleto o ausente. CONCLUSIÓN: El bajo índice de rellenos indicadores de crecimiento y desarrollo refuerza la necesidad de sensibilización de la población, profesionales y gestores de la salud para la importancia de la cartilla, así como inversiones en la formación y capacitación de los profesionales cuanto a su uso adecuado. .

MÉTODO: Estudo transversal, realizado em Cuiabá, Brasil, em 13 de agosto de 2011, com aplicação de formulário e observação direta de 950 cadernetas. Foram incluídas crianças menores de um ano, residentes em Cuiabá, acompanhadas da mãe ou do responsável e de posse da caderneta. Os dados foram analisados calculando-se a razão de prevalência (RP) e teste Qui-Quadrado, com nível de significância de 5%. O projeto foi aprovado por Comitê de Ética sob o parecer nº 882/2010. RESULTADOS: Das cadernetas analisadas, 95,4% do desenvolvimento e 79,6% dos gráficos de crescimento estavam com preenchimento incompleto ou ausente. CONCLUSÃO: O baixo índice de preenchimento dos indicadores, crescimento e desenvolvimento, reforça a necessidade de sensibilização da população, de profissionais e gestores da saúde para a importância da caderneta, bem como investimentos na formação e capacitação dos profissionais quanto ao seu uso adequado. .
